We love the Fourth of July holiday here in Mentone, Alabama. From home-town BBQs to firework displays, there is plenty to do and plenty of ways to celebrate Independence Day! Here’s how you can spend your Fourth of July in Mentone, Alabama with these local events.
DeSoto State Park Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate Independence Day atop of Lookout Mountain at the DeSoto State Park Independence Day Celebration. Free to the public, the two-day celebration hosts a number of events, fun for both children and adults.
- Flag-making contest – Make your own flag to be entered in the flag-making contest. Free to enter and open to all ages, it is a fun event to show off your unwavering patriotism.
- Splish & Splash Pool Party – Spend the evening of the first day of the festival at the Splish & Splash Pool Party. Swim in the Olympic-sized pool, play pool games, and eat home-made ice cream. Entry is $1.00.
- Fourth of July Parade – Decorate your vehicle and show your American pride by entering the Fourth of July Parade. The Parade starts at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 6th and if you want to participate in the parade, you will need to arrive by 2:30 at the DeSoto Park Headquarters.
- Ice Cream social – After the parade, there will be an ice cream social held at the Campground Pavilion. Free to participate. Bring your own chairs as there is limited seating.
Farm to Table BBQ & Picnic
Head to The Farm at Windy Hill for the Farm to Table BBQ & Picnic. The Farm at Windy Hill is a working and learning farm in Mentone, AL where they work to sustainably grow fresh produce, flowers, meat, and eggs for the local community. From 4:00 to 7:00 PM on July 4th, enjoy a picnic on the grounds, stroll through the gardens at dusk, and shop their farmers market. They will be serving up farm-to-table pulled pork, homemade BBQ sauce, and fresh-from-the-garden sides. Trust us your taste buds will thank you!
Sand Mountain Potato Festival
Just outside of Mentone, Alabama is the small town of Henager, well-known for their produce and diversity of agriculture, including potatoes. The town hosts the annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival each Fourth of July. The festival includes live music, arts and crafts, games, and of course fireworks. It is free to enter and will take place at Henagar City Park.
